The Jeunesses Musicales of Canada Foundation
The Jeunesses Musicales of Canada Foundation (JMCF) is this year pleased to celebrate 25 years in the service of classical music and new talent. The Foundation’s members and team are joining their efforts to support Jeunesses Musicales of Canada (JMC), a non-profit organization dedicated to the presentation of classical music—especially to youth—and to the career development of young artists both nationally and internationally.
The Foundation is especially proud to be supporting an organization devoted to youth and music that is also one of the largest performance networks in the country. With over 300 volunteers hosting its tours in both performance halls and schools from coast to coast across Canada, JMC was among the first organizations to present professional calibre concerts in regions far from major urban centres. Since it was founded in 1949, the organization has presented tens of thousands of concerts for young audiences, families, and the general public. Today, a JMC season represents over 800 concerts and 700 workshops given by more than 100 artists in some 200 venues in Ontario, Quebec, the Maritimes, and British Columbia. Total audience figures are estimated at 150,000 people—110,000 of whom are children from ages 3 to 12.
Each year, through the dynamism of its members and its current president, Mr. André Bourbeau, the Foundation contributes to the activities of JMC, without a doubt one of the crowning jewels of our country’s cultural heritage. It should also be noted that JMC is affiliated with Jeunesses Musicales Internationales.
